A.E. Housman

Really? Not on your life….check out our events calendar. Our rural rambler’s paradise has lots going on.

The Heritage Trail guide is available from Caractiacus or Clun Museum , which is situated in the 18th Century Town hall in The Square.

Clun Community Area has a children’s play area and the Castle ruins and river make an ideal spot for a picnic, riverside walk or a spot of fishing.

For eating and drinking, you will find pubs and eateries with a good selection of home-cooked food and real ales throughout the Clun Valley

Clun Museum

The Clun Museum visit website here is usually open on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Bank Holidays. Due to its small size and the inability to distance there within the museum does not plan to open until the 22nd June 2021.

Play tennis in the Shropshire Hills AONB

Fancy a game of tennis in spectacular surroundings and a welcoming community.

Bishop’s Castle Tennis Club is where playing tennis is made easy and enjoyable.

For nearly 100 years, tennis has been played on the Club’s appropriately named Love Lane grounds, with their spectacular views of the Long Mynd, Stiperstones, the south Shropshire hills, buzzards and red kites.

The courts are in a superb location adjacent to the A488 road (SY9 5DW), adjacent to the Bishop’s Castle Railway trackbed and a short distance from Bishop’s Castle’s town centre. It’s about a 7 -minute walk from town by a public footpath.

Car parking and toilet facilities are available in the Club House. The Club is a Covid Secure Venue.

There are two floodlit hard courts and an AstroTurf court available for early risers from 8 am until night owls finish at 11 pm, all year round.

Local & Visitors enjoy “Pay and Play’ tennis for  £10 per hour per court (up to four players), paid and booked online. You’ll receive a booking confirmation with details on how to access the courts. Book at

Coming 2022

Escape Games Company

A new exciting outside adventure game concept (Adventure Out!) is being launched this Spring at Clun Castle by The Escape Games Company in association with English Heritage.

The games will see participants collaborate together in small groups to solve puzzles and crack clues inspired by the compelling heritage of Clun Castle. Actors in full costume will bring the games to life, engaging and interacting with players and further enhancing the experience.

COVID-safety will be paramount, with all activities outside and all clues and props cleaned and sanitised after every game.  The sizes of groups and the number of households allowed to mix will also be adhered to depending on Covid restrictions.

Last summer, The Escape Games Company ran a successful pilot at Berkhamsted Castle, an English Heritage site in Hertfordshire, where more than 95% of players said they would recommend the experience. The games at Clun Castle (and other new games being operated by The Escape Games Company) will be delivered under their ‘Adventure Out! Games’ brand, which focuses on outdoor, escape style themed games in amazing sites around England.

The games are ideal for families and friends of all ages, along with school groups and those looking for corporate team building activities.

Adventure Out! Games are around one hour in duration and can be booked in advance at www.adventureoutgames.co.uk with games at Clun Castle launching from 30 May with a money back guarantee should COVID restrictions change. Prices start at £10 per person. Games will be available on weekdays, at weekends and throughout the school holidays.

Clun - perfect for a walking holiday with great events, food and accommodation.
